Conservatory of Music Schedule

The Conservatory offers a wide range of opportunities for students to perform—from on-campus recitals and concerts to national and international tours, festivals and competitions.

Venues

Our campus has exceptional performance spaces for concerts. Whether it's a rich, historic setting in Mees Hall, a summer concert by the Reflections Fountains, or the acoustically pristine Huntington Recital, these venues enhance the musicality, performance, and offer patrons a memorable experience.

Huntington Recital Hall

Huntington Hall is a 180-seat recital hall; and the Conservatory's primary performing hall, This is where most student, faculty and guest recitals are presented each year.

Mees Auditorium

Mees Auditorium is one of Columbus' historic performance halls. The auditorium was constructed in 1926 and was fully renovated in 1992. In fall 2005 the Paul W. and Ella D. Hugus Pipe Organ was installed. The Mees Auditorium is Capital's largest performance and gathering space hosting the Christmas Festival, Prism, Big Band performances and student and faculty assemblies, such as Opening Convocation. The auditorium is named for Rev. Dr. Otto Mees who became president in 1912 and served that office for nearly 34 years.

Outdoor

Some prefer the sound of music mixed with warm air and sunshine. If lawn chairs and picnic blankets are your thing, Capital has several events which take advantage of the warm weather and beauty of our campus. Outdoor events are generally free and open to the public, so members of the community are encouraged to bring their picnic baskets and non-alcoholic beverage coolers to the multiple concerts at Reflections Fountain in the center of Capital's campus.

The NOW MUSIC Festival

The NOW MUSIC Festival @ Capital University is a celebration of contemporary music with an emphasis on music being composed now — typically, within the last ten years. The concerts and events feature works by guest, faculty, and student composers. All events are free and open to the public, thanks to the generous support of the Society of Pi Kappa Lambda and Capital’s General Education Committee.

FEBRUARY 

Jazz and World Music Festival

This event features music by student, faculty and guest ensemble concerts, both on campus and in the community, and world-class jazz artists in clinics, workshops, and in concert throughout the period. All events are free and open to the public unless marked otherwise.

APRIL 

Christmas Festival

Performances by the internationally known and medal-winning Chapel Choir, along with Choral Union, Cantabile Consort, a cappella group Philomel and a variety of instrumentalists fill every part of the concert hall,and embrace the audience in song during this cherished holiday event.
