Biography
Before joining Capital, Professor Simpson practiced for 38 years at the Columbus-based law firm Bricker & Eckler LLP, where he served as managing partner for 10 years. In that capacity, Simpson provided oversight for the daily business operations of the firm, including its expansion into the Cleveland and Cincinnati-Dayton regions.He is the former chair of the firm’s public finance group, where his practice was focused on municipal bonds with an emphasis on general obligation and utility revenue bond and note financings for municipalities, school districts and other political entities. He also provided general representation for corporations and individuals.Professor Simpson has served as lead bond counsel on hundreds of municipal bond financings throughout Ohio. He has been a frequent lecturer on bond-related topics for the Ohio Municipal League, Ohio Prosecuting Attorneys Association, Buckeye Association of School Administrators, Ohio School Boards Association and other organizations.A native of Columbus, Ohio, Professor Simpson earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Honors College at Michigan State University and Juris Doctor degree from the University of Michigan. As an active practitioner, he was consistently listed in The Best Lawyers in America (corporate law and public finance law) and Ohio Super Lawyers. He has been active in many community and professional organizations, including the American Bar, Ohio State Bar and Columbus Bar associations, National Association of Bond Lawyers, Ohio Historical Society (Trustee), Ohio Business Roundtable and Upper Arlington Rotary Club.Professor Simpson served as Dean of Capital University Law School from June 2010 to June 2014. He retired in June 2014 and remains a member of our adjunct faculty.Degrees
